This partnership evolved naturally when Katherine expressed her desire to open her own business and John, a Morgantown, WV staple in the jewelry industry since 1976, expressed his desire not to retire. Specializing in custom design and exceptional customer service is a natural outflow from the combined expertise of Katherine and John.
Spencer and Kuehn Fine Jewelry Studio is the twenty first century evolution of the Jewelry business. On the premises they are able to hand fabricate fine jewelry using ancient techniques that they combine with cutting edge technology. They use a torch as well as a laser to make fine designer creations. You can work with Spencer and Kuehn to create that one-of-a-kind heirloom that you will pass on some day to your grandchildren and great grandchildren.
From the first sketch to the final polish, every piece is created under one roof. By combining traditional techniques with modern technology, we ensure precision, beauty, and value in every design.

Katherine earned her BFA in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing with highest honors from The Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004. After graduating, Katherine created her own pieces of unique fine jewelry which she sold at craft fairs and online until she came to Morgantown in 2013 where she worked locally as a jewelry designer and bench goldsmith. Her goal from the start was to open her own brick and mortar jewelry design business focused on bespoke design, and that goal has been achieved with the grand opening of Spencer & Kuehn.

John went to the University of Tennessee and graduated with a PhD in Resource Economics. He taught economics at WVU for 15 years but also had a goal of opening his own business. He took the courses to become a Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and opened in an office in downtown Morgantown in 1976. He expanded that into several retail jewelry stores over the years while always providing custom designs as well as the designs of major fine jewelry industry artists.

Jamie earned her Associates degree in Jewelry Arts from Haywood Community College. Influenced by Art Nouveau jewelry styles, she enjoys creating her own bold spin on this intricate, organic style.

J.T. graduated from WVU in 2024 with a B.S. in Fashion, Dress, and Merchandising. He began his apprenticeship immediately after graduating. Drawing inspiration from nature and vintage jewelry, he strives to create truly unique pieces.

Carla is our Customer Relations Manager. She has a passion for jewelry and making our customers sparkle. Carla works closely with our jewelers to ensure that each clients’ project or repair is nuanced from beginning to end.
Carla is originally from Morgantown, has her B.A. from WVU and lives in Cheat Lake with her husband and two sons.
